FAQ

Q. Which files can I open?

GIF, APNG (animated PNG) and animated WebP. Non-animated PNG and WebP files can also be opened. Drag and drop a file onto the window, choose File → Open… from the menu, or use Open With → FrameScope in the Finder.

Q. The playback speed is different from what I see in a browser

Set the timing to Browser-like. Major browsers display frames with a duration of 10 ms or less as 100 ms. Original plays the durations exactly as stored in the file, so files containing such frames play faster than in a browser.

Q. Only part of the image is shown in “Raw” view

In animated images such as GIF, frames after the first often store only the area that changed from the previous frame. Raw shows only that stored area. Use Composited to see how the frame actually looks.

Q. Does deleting frames change the original file?

No. Deleting frames in edit mode only removes them from what FrameScope shows and exports. The original file is never modified. You can undo a deletion with ⌘Z.

Q. How do I change the names of exported files?

Use the File name field in the export dialog. You can combine the following tokens:

Token Meaning
{source} Original file name (without extension)
{frame} / {frame:04} Frame number (:04 pads it to 4 digits with zeros)
{width} / {height} Width / height
{delay} Frame duration (milliseconds)

Q. I can only export to certain locations

Following the rules for Mac App Store apps, FrameScope saves files only to the folder you choose in the export dialog. Please choose the destination folder each time you export.

Q. The file is only partly shown

If a file is damaged partway through, FrameScope shows the frames it could read and displays a message that the file is damaged.

Q. How do I change the display language?

Use the Language menu to switch between Japanese and English.
