FrameScope is an app for examining GIF, APNG and animated WebP files one frame at a time.
Typical image viewers often get frame timing wrong, and they don’t show how partial frames (frames that store only the changed area) actually look. FrameScope reads the information stored in the file as is, and plays the animation with the same appearance and timing as a web browser.
Features
Accurate playback
- Plays each frame for exactly the duration stored in the file
- “Browser-like” timing plays frames of 10 ms or less as 100 ms, as major browsers do
- Playback speed, looping, and frame-by-frame stepping
Frame inspection
- Switch between “Composited” (the real appearance with frame rects, dispose and blend applied) and “Raw” (only the rectangle stored in the file)
- File information: canvas size, frame count, total duration, average frame rate, loop count and more
- Per-frame information: duration, start time, position, size, dispose and blend
- Checkerboard for transparency, pixel grid, frame bounds, and zoom
Export
- Export all frames or a range as PNG, JPEG or WebP
- Export composited frames (as they look) or the raw stored rectangles
- Scale up on export and set a file name pattern
- Also export frame timing as JSON
- Copy the selected frame to the clipboard
And more
- Edit mode to drop unwanted frames before exporting (the original file is never modified)
- Damaged files are shown up to the last frame that could be read
- Japanese and English user interface
